ROYSE CITY, Texas - A Royse City police officer has been placed on administrative leave after a video circulating on social media prompted an internal investigation into an arrest at a neighborhood community pool.
According to the Royse City Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 3 when officers responded to a disturbance at the community pool in the Creekside neighborhood.
Police said department administrators became aware of a video of the incident circulating on social media on Aug. 4. After reviewing the matter, the department immediately opened an internal investigation.
As part of that review, prosecutors dropped all charges against the two individuals who were arrested during the incident pending a thorough examination of the case.
The officer who is the subject of the investigation has been placed on administrative leave while the internal investigation is conducted.
The Royse City Police Department said it does not publicly comment on active internal investigations but pledged to release its findings and disclose any disciplinary action taken once the investigation is complete.
"The Royse City Police Department wants to ensure the public that we take these types of matters very seriously and we will conduct a thorough and comprehensive internal investigation into the matter," the department said in a statement.
No additional details about the incident or those involved have been released as the investigation continues.
