ROYSE CITY, Texas - Police are searching for a registered sex offender accused of stabbing his girlfriend during an assault at a Royse City apartment complex Thursday night.
According to the Royse City Police Department, officers responded at approximately 9:30 p.m. on July 23 to the Regal Apartments in the 300 block of North Erby Campbell Road following a report of a stabbing.
When officers arrived, they found a 50-year-old woman outside her apartment suffering from a knife wound to her back. She was conscious and bleeding when officers made contact.
Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital, where she is reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators identified the suspect as 56-year-old Eric Joe Johnson. Police said the victim told officers she had been in a dating relationship with Johnson.
An arrest warrant has been issued charging Johnson with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
According to police, Johnson is a registered sex offender who most recently registered with the Dallas Police Department on June 29, 2026, as a transient living behind a pawn shop.
Johnson is described as a Black male, 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds, with short black dreadlocks. He is believed to be driving a gold 2006 Cadillac sedan bearing Texas license plate XLP9366.
Police consider Johnson to be armed and dangerous and advise anyone who sees him or knows his whereabouts not to approach him. Instead, they should immediately call 911.
