WYLIE, Texas — A man has been arrested after police say he intentionally struck another man with a vehicle during an altercation, leaving the victim critically injured.
According to the Wylie Police Department, officers were investigating reports of vehicles possibly racing in the back of a parking lot in the 800 block of Woodbridge Parkway at approximately 3:38 p.m. on Sunday, July 5.
As an officer responded to the area, he witnessed an automobile-versus-pedestrian crash that had just occurred in the parking lot of 207 Security Court.
Emergency personnel responded and treated the 20-year-old victim, who suffered a severe head injury. He was transported to a regional hospital in critical condition.
The preliminary investigation determined the victim had been involved in a verbal altercation with another man, identified as Rene Padilla.
Police allege that during the confrontation, the victim exited his vehicle and was intentionally struck by the vehicle Padilla was driving.
Wylie Police accident investigators and detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division responded to process the scene and continue the investigation.
Padilla was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
Police said the investigation remains active and detectives expect to upgrade the charges at a later date.
