A serious car accident occurred on Saturday afternoon, August 5, at approximately 2:45pm, sending emergency responders from the Gun Barrel City Fire and Police Departments, as well as UT Health EMS, rushing to the scene. The collision, involving three vehicles, took place in the 300 block of East Main Street, resulting in multiple injuries and the temporary closure of the road.
According to eyewitnesses and preliminary reports, two pickup trucks and another vehicle were involved in the crash, which sent shockwaves through the quiet streets of Gun Barrel City. The impact of the collision was so intense that it left the driver of a white Ford pickup truck trapped within the wreckage of their vehicle. Swift action from the local firefighters was required to extricate the driver using specialized equipment, including the renowned Hurst Jaws of Life® Rescue Tools.
Once freed from the mangled wreckage, the trapped driver was immediately attended to by emergency medical personnel. Due to the severity of the injuries sustained, the decision was made to transport the driver via UT Health Air 1 to Tyler, where they could receive specialized medical care.
In addition to the driver of the white Ford pickup truck, a total of six other individuals were also injured in the accident. UT Health EMS swiftly arrived on the scene with a fleet of three ambulances to provide aid and transport the injured to nearby hospitals for further evaluation and treatment. The extent of their injuries and current conditions remain undisclosed at this time.
As emergency responders worked diligently to attend to the victims and clear the scene, Gun Barrel City Police were forced to close East Main Street to traffic for approximately one hour. The closure was necessary to facilitate the safe extraction of the trapped driver and the subsequent investigation into the accident's cause.
