SHERMAN, Texas — A Grayson County animal cruelty investigation has resulted in the seizure of 39 horses and the arrest of a man accused of failing to properly care for the animals.
According to the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, investigators have spent several weeks examining allegations of animal neglect at a property in the 2600 block of Highway 82 near Sherman.
As part of the investigation, deputies executed a search warrant at the property and discovered numerous horses living in conditions where they allegedly lacked adequate food, water and shelter.
To protect the animals' welfare, authorities removed a total of 39 horses from the property.
The horses were transported to trained animal care professionals, where they will receive veterinary treatment, nutritional support and ongoing care.
Investigators arrested Jimmy Perry Grady and charged him with Cruelty to Livestock Animals.
The sheriff's office noted that large-scale animal neglect cases often require extensive coordination among law enforcement, veterinarians, animal welfare organizations and other partners to properly assess animal conditions, secure resources and document evidence for potential prosecution.
Authorities said the investigation remains active and additional charges could be filed as investigators continue reviewing evidence and evaluating the condition of the animals involved.
The Grayson County Sheriff's Office thanked the veterinarians, animal care professionals and volunteers who assisted with the safe removal, transportation and care of the horses.
Anyone with information related to animal cruelty or neglect is encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
