TEXARKANA, Texas - Two teenagers were arrested shortly after breaking into a Texarkana business early Friday morning, according to the Texarkana Texas Police Department.
Officers responded to a burglar alarm at a business in the 2200 block of South Lake Drive at approximately 1:30 a.m. on June 5.
When officers arrived, they discovered the front glass door had been shattered and that suspects had forced their way inside the building.
Investigators said the burglars immediately grabbed the cash register, apparently believing it contained money. However, they quickly realized the register was empty and abandoned it before leaving the scene.
Officers established a perimeter around the area while K-9 Gator began tracking from the business.
According to police, the K-9 followed a scent trail directly toward the nearby Sunset Apartments as officers simultaneously canvassed the surrounding area.
While searching the apartment complex, Officers Cody Roberson and Cody Cox encountered two males standing outside an apartment.
Investigators quickly recognized that one of the individuals was wearing the same clothing seen on one of the suspects in surveillance video from the burglary.
Police said the second suspect appeared to have changed clothes, but officers observed glass fragments on his hands that were consistent with the shattered front door at the business.
The suspects were identified as 19-year-old Avontray Cleamons and 17-year-old Roberlynsti McHenry.
Both were arrested and charged with Burglary of a Building.
They were transported to the Bi-State Jail, where bond was set at $15,000 each.
The investigation remains ongoing.
