PARIS, Texas - The Paris Police Department is warning teenagers and parents that organized fights occurring in the city will not be tolerated and could result in criminal charges.
Police said they have received reports of groups of teens participating in planned fights at several locations throughout Paris, including city parks. Investigators have also learned of additional gatherings that may be planned in the future.
In response, the department is increasing patrols in areas where recent incidents have occurred and where tips suggest future fights could take place.
Authorities said officers will use additional personnel, surveillance resources, facial recognition technology, and assistance from local schools to identify individuals involved in past and future incidents.
Police emphasized that a person does not have to physically engage in a fight to face potential criminal charges.
Under Texas law, disorderly conduct can include fighting in a public place or using abusive, indecent, profane, or vulgar language that tends to incite an immediate breach of the peace.
Officials warned that anyone identified through surveillance footage, eyewitness accounts, or other investigative methods may be subject to criminal charges and fines.
The department is encouraging parents to discuss the issue with their children and discourage them from participating in or attending organized fights.
Police said the increased enforcement efforts are aimed at preventing violence and maintaining public safety throughout the community.
