GRAYSON COUNTY, Texas - An armed man accused of threatening law enforcement officers surrendered peacefully Tuesday afternoon following an hours-long standoff west of Whitewright, according to the Grayson County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded around 12:33 p.m. on May 19 to a reported domestic disturbance in the 300 block of Darwin Road in Whitewright, TX.
When deputies arrived, they encountered an armed suspect identified as Tony Owen, who allegedly made threats toward law enforcement personnel, authorities said.
Deputies established a perimeter around the residence and requested assistance from the sheriff’s office Special Response Team and crisis negotiators.
According to investigators, negotiators remained in contact with Owen for several hours in an effort to resolve the situation peacefully.
At approximately 3 p.m., Owen voluntarily surrendered and was taken into custody without injury to himself, law enforcement personnel, or members of the public.
Owen was booked into the Grayson County Jail on charges of interference with public duties, assault causing bodily injury involving family violence, aggravated assault against a public servant, and an outstanding Grayson County warrant.
The sheriff’s office thanked residents for their patience during the incident and also acknowledged assistance from the Whitewright Police Department, Whitewright Fire Department, and Tom Bean Police Department.
