Greenville ISD Brothers Advance to Texas High School Bass Fishing State Tournament

GREENVILLE, Texas — Two Greenville High School students are preparing to compete against some of the best young anglers in Texas after qualifying for the Texas High School Bass Association State Tournament later this month.

Brothers Parker Jarvis and Peyton Jarvis earned a spot in the state tournament and will compete May 30-31 against more than 200 teams from across Texas.

The tournament is expected to feature approximately 70 teams in each division as student anglers compete in one of the state’s top high school fishing events.

The Jarvis brothers represent a growing milestone for Greenville ISD’s bass fishing program, which is only in its second year of competition.

Parker Jarvis Returning to State Tournament

For senior Parker Jarvis, the appearance marks his second trip to the state tournament during his high school career.

Following graduation, Parker plans to continue his fishing career collegiately after committing to compete for Dallas Baptist University.

Tournament Preparation Begins Before Sunrise

In the days leading up to competition, anglers participate in “pre-fishing,” where teams scout the lake, evaluate conditions, and identify productive fishing areas before the tournament officially begins.

Tournament mornings start early, with teams arriving before sunrise and waiting for the official launch period.

According to Greenville ISD, anglers are not allowed to leave the boat ramp until 5 a.m., with competition officially beginning at 7 a.m.

Throughout the event, teams must adapt to changing lake conditions while making strategic decisions on locations, bait selection, and timing.
