Lagarin Savage and Kash Garcia

GREENVILLE, Texas — Greenville High School powerlifters Lagarin Savage and Kash Garcia earned spots at the state meet following standout performances at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association Region 3 competition.

Savage, a junior, captured first place in the 308-pound weight class, while Garcia, a senior, placed fifth in the 220-pound division. Both advanced to the state meet held March 27–28 in Abilene.

Savage totaled 1,315 pounds at regionals, including a 490-pound squat, 290-pound bench press, and a 530-pound deadlift, which marked a personal best.

“It was exciting,” Savage said. “I was ready to go home and show my grandparents. I knew they'd love it.”

Garcia posted a combined total of 1,450 pounds, with a 585-pound squat, 405-pound bench press, and a 460-pound deadlift.

“I was just excited,” Garcia said. “I knew I was going to qualify for state, and that was really about it.”

Both athletes said representing Greenville on the state stage meant a great deal.

“I just want to put my city out there and represent my friends and school,” Savage said. “It’s my school, my coaches, it means a lot.”

Savage said his training included multiple daily workouts leading up to regionals, while Garcia credited consistency and following his coach’s program.

Head coach Jeff Middleton praised their work ethic.

“If you show up and you work hard, you get rewarded,” Middleton said. “These boys have put in the effort, and it’s paying off.”

At the state meet, Savage placed ninth in the 308-pound unequipped division with a 510-pound squat, 295-pound bench press, and a 545-pound deadlift for a total of 1,350 pounds.

Garcia competed March 28 in the 220-pound class in the 5A Division I field, finishing 19th with a 580-pound squat, 405-pound bench press, and a 465-pound deadlift, totaling 1,450 pounds.

Savage and Garcia were among four Greenville athletes to qualify for state this season, joining Alexis Waddell and Mattie Simpson, highlighting continued growth in the school’s powerlifting program.
