On Monday, January 5, 2026, a Lamar County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the Powderly Post Office after reports of theft. Officials said that between December 31, 2025, and January 5, 2026, ten large parcel post office boxes had been pried open, and several customers reported missing packages that were marked as delivered.
Investigators learned that similar incidents occurred at the Arthur City and Brookston post offices, where four boxes at each location had also been tampered with. In total, 18 parcel boxes across the three post offices were targeted.
These thefts have been reported to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office at (903) 737-2400, option 1.
