Man Arrested on Multiple Felony Charges After Suspicious Vehicle Investigation in Madison County

Michael A. Nealy

MADISON COUNTY, Texas — A late-night investigation by a Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputy led to the arrest of a Midway man on multiple felony charges, including burglary and drug possession.

On March 31, 2026, at approximately 11:30 p.m., K-9 Corporal McIntyre observed a suspicious pickup truck parked along the westbound side of State Highway 21 East in the 13000 block. The vehicle appeared unattended, with a window down, keys in the ignition, and personal property visible inside.

After checking the area, the deputy returned and found 43-year-old Michael A. Nealy seated inside the vehicle, which was not registered to him. Authorities said Nealy was wearing dark clothing, sweating, and covered in brush debris. He told deputies he had been in a nearby wooded area searching for fuel.

Based on the circumstances, Nealy was detained as deputies Hughes and Lehman arrived to assist. During the investigation, deputies identified a nearby property where a shed and camper had allegedly been unlawfully entered.

Authorities said Nealy was in possession of suspected burglary tools and admitted to climbing a fence and entering the structures without the owner’s consent.

Nealy was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Building, Unlawful Use of a Criminal Instrument, and Burglary of a Habitation. During a consent search of the vehicle, deputies also located a suspected controlled substance, leading to an additional charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, greater than 4 grams but less than 200 grams.

The vehicle was seized as evidence due to items believed to be stolen.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed. Authorities noted that all individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
