SHERMAN, Texas — What began as a routine warrant arrest earlier this week led Sherman police to recover stolen property and solve multiple burglaries.
According to the Sherman Police Department, a patrol officer arrested a man who had outstanding warrants. During the arrest, the officer discovered more than $100,000 worth of cash, gold, silver and jewelry in the suspect’s possession.
At the time of the arrest, no crime had been reported involving the property. Because of the large amount and suspicious circumstances, the items were seized pending further investigation.
The following day, police responded to a report of a burglary at a local business. While investigating the case, officers realized the property reported stolen matched the items recovered during the warrant arrest the previous day.
A detective with the department’s Criminal Investigations Division assisted with the investigation. During an interview, the suspect confessed to multiple burglaries.
Authorities said investigators subsequently obtained two additional felony warrants in connection with the case.
Police said the investigation resulted in the recovery of stolen property and the clearance of several burglary cases.
