Four Houston Gang Members Convicted in Beaumont ATM Robbery Spree

Beaumont, TX — Four members of a Houston-based criminal street gang have been convicted or pleaded guilty in connection with a series of ATM robberies and “juggings” that targeted technicians and bank customers in Beaumont during 2024, federal authorities announced.

Charles Bernard Byrd, 34, also known as “Doughboy,” was found guilty by a jury on March 5, 2026, of conspiracy to commit bank robbery and aiding and abetting bank robbery following a four-day trial before U.S. District Judge Michael J. Truncale. Byrd faces up to 25 years in federal prison at sentencing.

Three co-defendants had previously pleaded guilty in the case: Kendrick Douglas Warren, 38, known as “Bullet,” Derrick Deshaun Brooks, 36, known as “D-Brooks,” and Derramy Deonita Foster, 42. All are from Houston.

According to evidence presented in court, the Beaumont Police Department and the FBI began investigating a string of robberies in 2024 targeting ATM repair technicians servicing bank machines.

One of the robberies occurred on October 8, 2024, at approximately 4:45 p.m., when two masked men later identified as Brooks and Foster rushed an ATM repair technician in the drive-through lane of a PNC Bank on Phelan Boulevard. The suspects pushed the technician aside and stole $153,000 in cash before fleeing in a black sedan toward Interstate 10. The entire robbery lasted less than 20 seconds.

A second robbery took place on December 31, 2024, at about 1:15 p.m. at the Education First Federal Credit Union on Laurel Avenue. Brooks and Warren, wearing masks and gloves, approached the technician, ordered him to move, and took $146,000 from the ATM before fleeing in a stolen red SUV. That robbery was also completed in under 20 seconds.

About 15 minutes later, Beaumont police located the abandoned SUV in a nearby parking lot. Although the license plate had been removed, investigators used license plate reader images from earlier in the day to identify the vehicle.

Authorities discovered the SUV had traveled from Houston to Beaumont alongside a black 2018 truck registered to Brooks. Shortly after the robbery, the same truck was seen leaving Beaumont and heading west on Interstate 10.

Beaumont police requested assistance from the Houston Police Department’s Criminal Apprehension Team. Officers located and stopped the truck as it exited Interstate 10 in Houston just 84 minutes after the robbery.

At the time of the stop, Byrd was driving the truck while Warren and Brooks were passengers. Officers recovered a bag containing exactly $146,000 in cash, matching the amount stolen from the credit union. Investigators also found gloves similar to those used in the robbery and a Texas paper license plate matching the one displayed on the stolen SUV.

Investigators determined the suspects were members of the “100% Third Ward” gang, also known as the “103 gang,” which operates in the Third Ward area of Houston and has been linked to robberies, burglaries, and juggings.

Authorities say the group carried out multiple criminal acts between October 1 and December 31, 2024, including auto thefts and robberies.

In one incident about an hour before the New Year’s Eve ATM robbery, the suspects conducted a “jugging” at a Chase Bank on Dowlen Road in Beaumont. After watching a bank customer receive a cash pouch at the drive-through, the suspects followed the woman to a nearby H-E-B store. While she was inside shopping, they smashed the window of her truck and stole the cash.

Warren pleaded guilty in September 2025 to conspiracy and bank robbery and faces up to 25 years in federal prison. Brooks pleaded guilty to conspiracy and two counts of bank robbery and faces up to 45 years in prison. Foster pleaded guilty to bank robbery and faces up to 20 years in prison.

Sentencing dates for the defendants will be scheduled following presentence investigations by the U.S. Probation Office.

The case was investigated by the Beaumont Police Department, the FBI, the Houston Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Memorial Villages Police Department, the West University Police Department, and the Shiner Police Department. Federal prosecutors John B. Ross and Jonathan Lee are handling the case.
