On Saturday, August 5, at approximately 2:45 pm, the Gun Barrel City Fire and Police Departments, in conjunction with UT Health EMS, rushed to the scene of a devastating car accident that involved three vehicles and resulted in six people being injured. The incident occurred in the 300 block of East Main Street.
According to eyewitness reports, two pickup trucks and a third vehicle collided, causing a massive impact that left the driver of a white Ford pickup truck trapped inside their vehicle. Responding swiftly to the emergency, firefighters skillfully deployed the Hurst Jaws of Life® Rescue Tools to carefully extricate the trapped driver from the wreckage.
The injured driver was immediately flown to a nearby hospital in Tyler via UT Health Air 1, ensuring they received prompt medical attention. In addition to the trapped driver, UT Health EMS responded with three ambulances to the scene and attended to a total of six patients, providing them with necessary medical aid and transportation to nearby hospitals.
The accident scene was chaotic, prompting Gun Barrel City Police to take swift action in order to secure the area and facilitate rescue and medical operations. As a result, East Main Street was temporarily closed for approximately one hour to allow emergency personnel to manage the situation effectively.
