GRAYSON COUNTY, Texas - A driver was airlifted to a hospital Wednesday evening after a single-vehicle crash was followed by an alleged armed confrontation near an intersection in Collinsville, authorities said.
The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received multiple calls at approximately 5 p.m. February 11 reporting a major vehicle crash near Old Town Road and Walden Lane. While first responders were en route, additional calls came in reporting gunshots in the area.
When law enforcement arrived, officers secured the scene to allow emergency medical personnel to reach the injured driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. The individual was transported by air to an area hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigation indicates only one vehicle was involved in the crash. Authorities said individuals nearby approached the vehicle to render aid, and during that interaction, an armed confrontation allegedly occurred, resulting in the driver being shot.
The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is leading the case with assistance from the Texas Ranger Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
Officials thanked the Tioga, Collinsville and Whitesboro police departments, the Whitesboro Fire Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol for their response. Roadways in the area were temporarily closed while investigators processed the scene.
