Mount Pleasant Man Convicted in Fentanyl Conspiracy Tied to Overdose Deaths

MOUNT PLEASANT, TX — A federal jury has found Jaquavion Veasley, 36, guilty on multiple fentanyl distribution charges tied to overdose deaths following a three-year investigation led by the Mount Pleasant Police Department’s Narcotics Unit.

On Wednesday, February 4, 2026, in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District, Veasley was convicted of five counts of Conspiracy to Distribute Fentanyl Causing Death and Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl. He faces a potential sentence ranging from 20 years to life in prison.

The investigation began in January 2023 when Mount Pleasant Police Department narcotics detectives identified Veasley as a suspected distributor of fentanyl. In March 2023, detectives responded to a fentanyl-related death that further implicated Veasley. He was arrested for Manufacturing and Delivery of fentanyl and methamphetamine and was identified as potentially responsible in the overdose death. Veasley was later released on bond.

In April 2023, detectives launched an investigation into a second fentanyl-related death involving Veasley. While those cases remained under investigation, officers responded to another overdose involving two individuals who had ingested fentanyl. Officers were able to resuscitate both victims. Veasley was again identified as the source of the narcotics in that incident.

On January 23, 2025, Veasley was arrested on federal charges connected to the overdose deaths and fentanyl distribution.

The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District. The investigation involved the Mount Pleasant Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Department of Public Safety, and federal prosecutors.
