Greenville Library Earns Statewide Excellence Award for 18th Straight Year

GREENVILLE, Texas - The W. Walworth Harrison Public Library has once again been recognized as one of the best public libraries in Texas, earning the 2025 Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award from the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association.

The honor is especially notable because it marks the 18th consecutive year the Greenville library has received the award, a distinction achieved by only a small number of libraries statewide.

To qualify, libraries must demonstrate excellence across ten rigorous standards set by TMLDA, including services to underserved populations, innovative marketing, community partnerships, expanded public services, literacy support, digital inclusion, workforce development, comprehensive programming, professional staff training, and overall community impact.

Out of 545 public libraries across Texas, only 101 met the standards required to earn the designation in 2025.

“Receiving this award for the 18th consecutive year is a profound honor that speaks to the enduring legacy of this institution,” said Library Director John Hayden. “Our 18-year streak isn’t just a record of professional achievement; it is a reflection of our long-standing promise to the people of Greenville. By consistently meeting these high standards of excellence, we ensure that as our community grows and changes, their library remains a constant, innovative, and welcoming space for all.”

Library officials say the recognition reflects ongoing efforts to expand access to information, promote lifelong learning, and serve as a central hub for education, technology, and community connection.
