In the early morning hours of Sunday, a devastating single-vehicle collision claimed the life of a man from Gladewater. According to a preliminary report by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the accident occurred at approximately 4:15 a.m. on US 271, around 3.5 miles southwest of Gladewater.
Authorities responded swiftly to the scene following a report of a vehicular collision. Upon arrival, they discovered a mangled vehicle that had veered off the roadway and struck a tree. The driver, identified as Wilbur Myers Jr., 30 years old, from Gladewater, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and tragically died on impact.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Myers was traveling northbound on US 271 when the incident occurred. For reasons yet to be determined, he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the road and collide with a nearby tree. Despite the prompt response from emergency services, Myers was pronounced deceased on-site.
