A 2-year-old child was injured after being bitten by an unattended pit bull tied to a picnic table at City Park on Sunday, according to the Kilgore Police Department. The incident has sparked concerns over pet safety and responsible ownership.
Kilgore police were swift in their response, immediately conducting an investigation to locate the dog's owner and asking for the public's help.
The owner was later identified and is reportedly cooperating with local animal control authorities. Police have not disclosed the owner's identity to the public.
Following the incident, the owner of the pit bull demonstrated concern for the injured child. He voluntarily visited the hospital later that night to inquire about the child's well-being. However, due to the chaotic circumstances at the scene, contact information was not exchanged at the time.
The injured child was quickly attended to by emergency medical personnel at the park and then rushed to a nearby hospital for further treatment. The extent of the child's injuries has not been disclosed, but authorities confirm that the child is in stable condition and is expected to recover.
