The Sunnyvale Police Department is intensifying its efforts to solve a fatal shooting that occurred on the evening of Sunday, June 4 at the Riverstone Apartments, 201 Planters Road. The incident resulted in the death of 27-year-old Tyesha Merritt from Mesquite and left her brother and his three children injured, although they have since recovered. To assist in the investigation, the Crime Stoppers Reward for information leading to an arrest in this case has been increased to $25,000.
The police have released surveillance video from the area that captured crucial moments of the incident. The video, which may be disturbing to some viewers, shows the shooter disembarking from a late-model black Toyota Camry with custom wheels. Additionally, it shows the injured brother running away from the victim's vehicle. A second video clip shows the suspect vehicle at the intersection of U.S. Highway 80 and Beltline Road on its way to the scene.
Witnesses who were present during the shooting describe the perpetrator as a black male, standing over six feet tall and weighing approximately 230 pounds. He was wearing a mask at the time of the incident. Another suspect was driving the vehicle, but no description of the driver is currently available.
