Greenville Launches L.I.F.T. Hunt County to Reduce Falls Among Older Adults

Greenville, TX – Hunt Regional Medical Center and Greenville Fire-Rescue have officially launched L.I.F.T. Hunt County—Living Independently, Fall-Free, Together—a coalition aimed at reducing falls and medical emergencies among older adults in the region.

Falls are a leading cause of injury, long-term disability, and death among adults aged 60 and older. Local 911 data shows that 71% of trauma-related emergency calls for this age group in Hunt County are fall-related. Between 2022 and 2024, emergency crews responded to 4,088 fall-related calls, including 1,885 in Greenville. From 2019 to 2024, Greenville Fire-Rescue logged over 2,000 lift-assist calls, with just 143 addresses accounting for nearly 1,100 of those incidents.

L.I.F.T. Hunt County aims to address this issue through a referral-based support program targeting frequent 911 callers, connecting them with fall prevention resources before a serious injury occurs.

The L.I.F.T. Kick-Off Event will be held Friday, November 7 at 1:30 PM at the Fletcher Warren Civic Center (5501 Bus Hwy 69 South). The event is free and open to the public. Attendees can participate in:

  • Medication Reconciliation: Participants bring a list of medications or prescription bottles for review by medical professionals to identify potential side effects, like dizziness, that could increase fall risk.

  • Medical Power of Attorney Completion: Hospital staff will guide attendees through completing a Medical Power of Attorney form to ensure healthcare wishes are clearly documented. Worksheets to prepare are available at Greenville Fire Administration (2603 Templeton Street) or by email request.

This program is designed to empower older adults and caregivers with tools to stay independent, informed, and injury-free.
