Lufkin Man Arrested After Deadly Shooting at Party Near Diboll

Perry Lynn Dixon III

Angelina County Sheriff Tom Selman announced that deputies have arrested 21-year-old Perry Lynn Dixon III of Lufkin in connection with a fatal shooting early Sunday morning outside Diboll.

Deputies responded to a report of gunfire around 2:07 a.m. on November 2 in the area of El Paso Road. When they arrived, they found that a party had taken place at a nearby residence and that several shots had been fired.

Three people were struck by gunfire. Nineteen-year-old Lewis Alonzo Torres, of the Hudson area, died from a gunshot wound to the chest. Two minors, a 17-year-old and a 15-year-old, were also injured. The 17-year-old was shot in the leg, and the 15-year-old was struck in the foot. Both were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses at the scene identified the shooter as a Black male, and investigators quickly developed Dixon as a suspect. Deputies later tracked him to an apartment on Lazy Oaks Street in Lufkin, where he was found hiding under a bed.

A search of the residence led to the discovery of a Glock 9mm pistol hidden in the air vent of the hallway ceiling. Spent shell casings recovered from the crime scene matched the caliber of the firearm. Lab testing will determine whether it was the weapon used in the shooting.

Dixon was taken into custody and transported to the Angelina County Jail, where he was charged with Murder. Sheriff Selman said additional charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon are expected in connection with the two wounded minors.

“I am proud of our deputies’ fast work that resulted in a speedy apprehension and recovery of vital evidence in the case, and I appreciate the assistance of Lufkin PD at the Lazy Oaks location,” Sheriff Selman said. “Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim, and we pray for a speedy recovery of the two youths that were injured.”
