Upshur County, Texas – On October 8, 2025, Marcus Andrew Holloway, 41, pled guilty to Driving While Intoxicated – 3rd or More, Habitual Offender and admitted to having two prior felony convictions. He was sentenced to 25 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Holloway is also currently serving a separate 15-year prison sentence for another offense.
The case stems from a July 4, 2022 traffic stop conducted by Troopers Christopher Putt and Frazier of the Texas Highway Patrol Division. Holloway was pulled over for speeding, and upon contact, Trooper Putt noted a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. Inside, troopers found multiple opened and unopened boxes of beer.
Holloway failed field sobriety tests, including the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, and registered a .286 blood alcohol concentration on a preliminary breath test—over three times the legal limit. He was arrested and transported to the Upshur County Jail.
District Attorney Billy W. Byrd prosecuted the case, which was presided over by Judge Dean Fowler of the 115th District Court.
Byrd commended Troopers Putt and Frazier for their thorough investigation and dedication to protecting the citizens of Upshur County.
