Shaun Paxton, 43, was sentenced to two life sentences after pleading guilty to murder and aggravated assault. Paxton fatally stabbed his father and seriously wounded his mother during an attack on Father's Day, June 19, 2022, at their family home on Skyline Blvd in Bowie County.
The horrifying incident came to light when Paxton's mother made a distress call to 911 around 1:30 a.m. that fateful morning. She reported that her son was stabbing both her and her husband. Law enforcement officials and emergency medical personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the police discovered the lifeless body of 65-year-old Michael Paxton, who had succumbed to multiple stab wounds on his neck and body. Paxton's mother, though critically injured with stabbing wounds to her neck and face, survived the brutal assault. Quick and decisive actions by the Texarkana Texas Police Department, the Texarkana Texas Fire Department, and LifeNet emergency medical personnel were credited with saving her life.
"The brutal attack carried out by this defendant deserved nothing less than the maximum sentence allowed under Texas law for these two offenses. The surviving victim and her family members can now close this chapter of their healing journey, " said Assistant District Attorney Katie Carter.
Despite extensive investigations, authorities were unable to pinpoint a clear motive for Paxton's violent actions against his parents.
