On August 7, Paris Police responded to the 800 block of Fitzhugh following reports that 48-year-old Anthony Eugene Barbaria, of Paris, was “Tasing” residents and threatening them with a hammer.
Officers arrived and met two women in the yard, one of whom identified herself as the victim. She told police Barbaria had “Tased” her and struck her, and that he was still inside the residence.
Police made contact with Barbaria inside the home and detained him. A search of his person revealed narcotics and drug paraphernalia. The victim then showed officers the weapons allegedly used in the assault, which included a homemade electrical discharge device made from a battery, a switch, and copper wires, as well as a hammer.
Barbaria denied having physical contact with the victim. He was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance, and booked into the city jail.
