JASPER COUNTY, TX – A Louisiana man was arrested early Tuesday morning after leading multiple police agencies on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash with a tractor-trailer in Buna. The driver, Julius T. Nix, 39, is facing charges after allegedly discarding large amounts of narcotics during the pursuit.
The incident began at approximately 2:45 a.m. when the Lumberton Police Department initiated a pursuit of a vehicle. Nix, the driver, was seen discarding narcotics from the car. The pursuit, which reached speeds of over 100 mph, involved Jasper County Deputies, Silsbee Police, and Kirbyville Police Department, who intercepted the vehicle in Buna.
Nix failed to negotiate a turn at FM 363 in Kirbyville, crashing into the side of a tractor-trailer. Following the crash, he fled on foot into a wooded area, where he allegedly discarded a large amount of ecstasy pills and a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine.
A perimeter was established by Jasper County Deputies. A K-9 unit from the Jasper Police Department was called to the scene, and Nix was found hiding in the wooded area just south of Bon Ami (CR 451).
Nix was taken into custody by the Lumberton Police Department and transported back to Hardin County. The truck driver sustained minor injuries and was evaluated by Allegiance Emergency Medical Services.
