Woman Sentenced to 15 Years for Assaulting Officer, Multiple DUI Charges

Candis Evans

BRYAN, TX — Candis Evans, 37, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Wednesday, July 30, by Judge David Hilburn after being convicted of assaulting a public servant by a Brazos County jury on April 15, 2025.

The case stems from an August 10, 2021, major collision near downtown Bryan at the intersection of William J. Bryan Parkway and Logan Avenue. Witnesses reported that Evans was driving erratically before crossing lanes and crashing head-on into another vehicle.

First responders observed signs of intoxication, and Evans was unresponsive to directions. While officers attempted to prevent her from fleeing the scene, she bit a Bryan police officer, leaving a visible injury on the officer’s arm. Evans admitted to using PCP.

During sentencing, the court also considered Evans’s prior criminal history, including a previous conviction for biting an 8-year-old child, probation violations, and a prior two-year prison sentence. Additionally, Evans was documented attempting to bite a different officer during a 2023 investigatory detention.

While out on bond for this case, Evans was arrested three times for driving while intoxicated. Those cases remain pending.

The State of Texas was represented by Assistant District Attorneys Caleb Beacham and Adam Andreski and Investigator Tiffany Graves.

"The defendant was given every opportunity to correct her behavior but continued to place the public in danger," said the prosecutors. "The Judge's sentence protects law enforcement and our community."
