BEAUMONT, TX – On the morning of July 29, 2025, at approximately 8:44 a.m., Jefferson County Narcotics Detectives conducting traffic enforcement on Interstate 10 stopped a gray GMC SUV for speeding 75 mph in a 55 mph construction zone near Major Drive in Beaumont.
After speaking with the two occupants of the vehicle, detectives developed reasonable suspicion of criminal activity. When the occupants denied consent to search, Jefferson County K9 Jaco was deployed to conduct a free air sniff of the vehicle. K9 Jaco alerted to the odor of narcotics.
A probable cause search led detectives to a hidden compartment in the vehicle's left rear quarter panel. Inside, they found two large plastic bags containing over $123,000 in U.S. currency. Investigators noted that the packaging and concealment method were consistent with drug trafficking and money laundering operations.
Both individuals in the vehicle denied knowledge of the hidden money. They were released pending further investigation. The seized currency has been logged into evidence and secured while the investigation continues.
