CROCKETT, TX — The Crockett Police Department, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, has arrested Kimberlee Ann Sherman in connection with the May 21, 2025, overdose death of 36-year-old Cameron Larue. Sherman was taken into custody on a murder warrant issued by Judge Mike McCreight, who set bond at $250,000.
This marks the city’s first arrest under the state’s “Fentanyl Murder” statute, made possible by House Bill 6, which was signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott in 2023. The law enhances penalties for individuals whose distribution of fentanyl directly results in a death.
Larue was found unresponsive at a residence on May 21. At the scene, investigators located counterfeit pills marked “M 30,” suspected to be fentanyl-laced Percocet. Autopsy and toxicology results later confirmed Larue died of acute fentanyl toxicity.
An investigation revealed that Sherman had supplied the pills to Larue. On May 22, police secured an arrest warrant for delivery of a controlled substance. After lab confirmation and autopsy results, the charge was upgraded to murder under the provisions of House Bill 6.
Sherman is currently being held pending further court proceedings. The Crockett Police Department continues to warn the public against consuming non-prescribed or counterfeit pills.
