Repeat DWI Offender Sentenced to 8 Years for Boating While Intoxicated on Cedar Creek Lake

Robert Eugene Sadler Jr.

Robert Eugene Sadler, Jr. has been sentenced to eight years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice following a conviction for Boating While Intoxicated – 3rd or More, a third-degree felony.

The sentence was handed down last week in the 392nd District Court by Judge R. Scott McKee. Assistant District Attorney Jessica Bargmann prosecuted the case on behalf of the State.

On May 26, 2024, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Game Warden Dylan Wallace observed Sadler operating a jet ski on Cedar Creek Lake after sunset. During the stop, Warden Wallace noticed an empty beer bottle in the footwell of the jet ski. Sadler admitted to consuming at least six beers earlier that evening and showed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech. A blood test later revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.126.

Sadler has an extensive criminal record involving alcohol-related offenses. He previously served prison time for DWI–3rd Offender out of Ellis County in 2019 and was convicted of DWI in Harris County in 2013. He also has a felony DWI–3rd or More conviction from 2008 in Kaufman County, along with prior state jail sentences for theft and possession of a controlled substance.

Henderson County District Attorney Jenny Palmer acknowledged the work of law enforcement, stating, “Operating any watercraft while intoxicated puts everyone on the lake at risk. I’m thankful for the vigilance of our Game Wardens, who help keep our lakes safe for families and boaters.”
