Hunt County Sheriff's deputies arrested a New York man on Monday, June 9, 2025, after he allegedly enticed a juvenile into his 18-wheeler. Amrit Singh, 28, of West Hempstead, New York, was charged with Enticing a Child away from Custodian, a Class B misdemeanor. His bond was set at $10,000.
The incident unfolded just after midnight on June 9, when a Hunt County deputy responded to a call regarding a juvenile who had gotten into an unknown person's vehicle outside their home. The deputy arrived to find an 18-wheeler parked on the road with an adult male, later identified as Singh, and the juvenile inside the cab.
The deputy immediately requested backup from Greenville Police officers and other deputies. Acting quickly, the deputy was able to detain the 18-wheeler driver and safely remove the juvenile from the vehicle without incident. The child was then transported to a local hospital for a medical check-up.
Hunt County Sheriff's C.I.D. responded to the scene, and Singh's 18-wheeler was towed and impounded as part of the investigation. Singh was subsequently booked into the Hunt County Detention Center.
Authorities noted that while the current charge is a Class B misdemeanor, it could be enhanced to a 3rd-degree felony if it is proven that the actor intended to commit a felony against the child. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
