Two Houston Police Officers Arrested and Charged for Misdemeanor Offenses, Relieved of Duty Pending Investigation

The Houston Police Department (HPD) has been rocked by two separate incidents resulting in the arrest and charging of two of its officers for misdemeanor offenses. Sergeant S. Childers and Senior Police Officer S. Martinez are currently under investigation by the Internal Affairs Division following their arrests.

Sergeant S. Childers, a 27-year veteran of the force assigned to the Clear Lake Division, was taken into custody and charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) shortly after the end of his shift. The incident, which led to his arrest, has raised concerns about the responsibility and accountability expected from HPD officers, especially given his considerable tenure within the department.

In a separate incident, Senior Police Officer S. Martinez, who is assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Division, was arrested for Assault - Family Violence after an alleged incident at a residence in an unincorporated area of Harris County. Officer Martinez was off-duty at the time of the incident, and the circumstances surrounding the altercation have not been fully disclosed. However, the gravity of the charge has cast a shadow on the department's reputation.

The Houston Police Department has taken swift action in both cases, immediately relieving both officers of their duties pending the outcome of the Internal Affairs investigation. The department's commitment to upholding the highest standards of conduct and professionalism remains unwavering, and it will take appropriate actions based on the findings of the investigation, which could include termination.
