In the evening of July 13, 2023, a devastating traffic crash occurred on Preston Road, resulting in the death of a driver. Plano Police Officers and the Fire Department swiftly responded to the scene at approximately 10:44 p.m., where they encountered a scene of chaos and destruction.
According to preliminary investigations conducted by the Plano Police Traffic Unit, an SUV and a sedan were both traveling southbound on Preston Road when the collision took place. The initial findings suggest that the driver of the sedan failed to maintain control of their speed, resulting in a forceful impact with the rear of the SUV. The sedan, propelled by the collision, then veered off the road and struck a nearby tree before igniting into flames.
Eyewitnesses present at the scene immediately sprang into action, attempting to rescue the unconscious driver from the engulfed sedan. Regrettably, their heroic efforts were thwarted due to the extensive damage and rapidly spreading fire. The Plano Fire-Rescue team was promptly dispatched and skillfully extinguished the blaze, after which they determined that the driver had tragically lost their life as a result of the accident.
Meanwhile, the driver of the SUV, though shaken by the incident, reported no injuries following the collision. Their vehicle sustained moderate damage but proved to be more resilient compared to the sedan involved in the crash.
As authorities continue their investigation into the incident, speed is suspected to have played a significant role in the tragedy.
