In a shocking incident on Monday, July 10, 2023, a road rage in a Hurst, TX confrontation turned deadly as a 37-year-old woman was fatally shot. Hurst Police and Fire units were dispatched to the 1400 block of West Hurst Blvd at approximately 9:18 p.m. following a distress call reporting a shooting.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered the victim, identified as 37-year-old Paola Nunez Linares, with a gunshot wound to the head. Linares' devastated husband, Zane Jones, was present at the scene and recounted the horrifying chain of events. According to Jones, he and Linares were traveling northbound on East Loop 820 in their maroon 2017 KIA minivan when they found themselves embroiled in a heated road rage altercation with another vehicle.
The couple's vehicle had a near-collision with the unidentified suspect's small, dark-colored older model car. In the aftermath of the close call, tempers flared, and Linares' husband admitted to local news media that he had "flipped off" the other driver. In a shocking escalation, an occupant of the suspect vehicle proceeded to fire several shots at the couple's van, tragically striking Linares in the process.
Hurst Fire Department medics swiftly arrived at the scene and transported the gravely injured Linares to JPS Hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, she was later pronounced dead. The loss of Linares, who had been living in the United States for two years after migrating from Guatemala, has left her loved ones in mourning.
