In August 2022, the Terrell Police Department launched an investigation into an alleged incident of Online Solicitation of a Minor. The investigation began after an organization used an online decoy profile to engage with an individual they believed to be Daniel Joiner of Terrell. The group later confronted Joiner at his place of business, Terrell Skateland, and livestreamed the encounter online. After the confrontation, the organization contacted the Terrell Police Department to file a formal complaint.
The investigation, led by the Criminal Investigations Division, uncovered that James Chambers Crow, a resident of Mesquite, had created a fraudulent online profile using Joiner's personal information. Crow used this fake identity to engage in illegal activities with underage individuals. As the investigation progressed, officers identified Crow as the primary suspect and obtained arrest warrants.
On January 2, 2025, Crow was arrested at his residence in Mesquite. In December 2024, Crow pled guilty to charges of Online Impersonation and Online Solicitation of a Minor Under 14. He was sentenced to 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).
Daniel Joiner, who was initially implicated due to the fraudulent use of his information, was found to have no involvement in the criminal activity and faced no charges. The Terrell Police Department’s investigation cleared Joiner of any wrongdoing and ensured that Crow would face the consequences of his actions.
