In a momentous decision, the Cooper Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees announced on June 20, 2023, that Mrs. Amber Norris has been unanimously voted as the lone finalist for the esteemed position of Superintendent of Schools. Norris, who currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent for the district, has consistently exhibited exceptional leadership qualities and a deep commitment to the students, staff, and community.
The Cooper ISD Board expressed their confidence in Mrs. Norris's abilities and highlighted her outstanding track record during her tenure as the Assistant Superintendent. They commended her for her unwavering dedication to uplifting others and her humility in serving the district. In an official press release, the school district stated, "Anyone who knows Mrs. Norris, knows she serves with enthusiasm and passion, always striving to lift others up, while humbly serving. While the decision to appoint Mrs. Norris as the Superintendent is pending formal approval, the board will observe the mandatory 21-day waiting period as required by the state before finalizing their decision at the July board meeting. This period allows for a smooth transition, ensuring that Mrs. Norris assumes her new role in time for the upcoming school year.
Mrs. Norris's deep roots within the community and her extensive experience in the field of education have played a significant role in her selection. She is married to Guy Norris, and together they have two children, Taylor and Tanner Swinson. Mrs. Norris earned her Bachelor of Science degree at Texas A&M-Commerce and her Masters of Education in Leadership from Texas Tech University. With an impressive 24 years of experience in education, Mrs. Norris has held various teaching and leadership positions throughout her career.
Prior to her role as the Assistant Superintendent of Cooper ISD, Mrs. Norris served as the District Director of Accountability, Curriculum and Instruction, as well as fulfilling interim principal and curriculum coordinator roles for the secondary campus. Her expertise extends beyond Cooper ISD, having worked in other districts such as Commerce ISD, Wylie ISD, and Sulphur Springs ISD, where she contributed as a Biology Teacher and Agriculture Science Teacher.
