Celebrity Chef Roshni Gurnani Brings Global Cuisine Experience to Commerce High School Students

COMMERCE, Texas - Commerce High School students received a hands-on culinary experience last week when nationally recognized chef Roshni Gurnani, known professionally as Chef Rosh, visited campus to prepare a featured international dish and share her culinary expertise.

Chef Rosh prepared Kung Pao chicken with brown rice, a recipe Taher chefs learned during a culinary trip to China the previous year. Students sampled the meal and participated in the experience using chopsticks while learning about international cooking techniques and flavors.

Gurnani is known for multiple national television appearances, including winning Food Network’s Chopped, competing on Hell’s Kitchen, challenging chefs on Beat Bobby Flay, and appearing on Iron Chef: Alex vs. America.

She began cooking at age 13 and later trained professionally, traveling internationally to study cuisines across India, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and Europe before establishing her career in the United States. Gurnani has received national and international culinary awards, been named among the top five Indian chefs in the United States, earned a James Beard Award nomination, and authored a cookbook.

Beyond her culinary career, Gurnani serves on nonprofit boards supporting cancer patients and women pursuing careers in the culinary industry.

School officials said the visit offered students an opportunity to experience global cuisine firsthand while learning from a chef with international recognition.
