The Dallas County Medical Examiner has identified the body recovered from the water near the 1300 block of Rowlett Road on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, as that of 60-year-old Sunny Jacob. Sunny had been reported missing by his wife on Sunday, June 18, 2023, and an extensive search was conducted by authorities and volunteers.
The discovery of the body brings a tragic end to the search efforts for Sunny Jacob, who was considered at risk due to his diagnosis of dementia. The Rowlett Police Department, along with the assistance of the Rowlett Fire Department, Dallas Police Department, Wylie Fire Department, concerned citizens, and others, had tirelessly combed the area near Sunny's residence on Sassafrass Way.
The Rowlett Police were initially alerted about Sunny's disappearance at 11:21 p.m. on Sunday, when his wife reported that he had walked away from their home. Concerned for his safety, authorities immediately launched a search operation, utilizing various resources and agencies to cover the extensive area.
Tragically, on Tuesday morning at approximately 8:11 a.m., a distressing discovery was made when a 911 call reported the sighting of a body in the water near the 1300 block of Rowlett Road. The Rowlett Fire Department dive rescue team promptly responded to the scene and successfully recovered the body. At that time, it was not possible to identify the body due to decomposition.
Subsequently, the Dallas Police Department and Dallas Medical Examiner arrived to carry out further investigations. It was during this process that the body was positively identified as that of Sunny Jacob, confirming the worst fears of his family and friends.
The Rowlett Police Department has stated that they are not actively seeking any suspects related to this isolated incident.
