On Sunday night, September 1, 2024, at approximately 10:00 PM, a Cumby Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on a blue Nissan Altima at mile marker 114 EB due to a defective headlight. The driver, Sergio Raul Espinoza of Dallas, was unable to produce a driver's license. A records check revealed an outstanding warrant for Evading with a Motor Vehicle.
When the officer instructed Espinoza to exit the vehicle, he pretended to be confused and fled the scene. The ensuing pursuit reached speeds exceeding 100 mph and crossed from Hopkins County into Hunt County. Hunt County deputies successfully deployed spike strips at exit 101, which caused Espinoza to slow down. The vehicle eventually came to a stop, and Espinoza was taken into custody. He was transported to Hopkins County Jail.
Espinoza faces the following charges:
- Evading with a Motor Vehicle (Felony 3)
- Evading Arrest with a Vehicle (Dallas Warrant)
- Probation Violation for Burglary of a Habitation (Dallas Warrant)
