Greenville Police Department Offers Free Summer Camp for 6th Graders

The Greenville Police Department, in collaboration with the Greenville ISD Police Department and Pioneer Technology and Arts Academy, is excited to announce a free summer camp tailored for children who have completed 5th grade and are gearing up for 6th grade.

Scheduled from June 3, 2024, to June 7, 2024, the camp will take place at the Pioneer Technology and Arts Academy, situated at 8503 Jack Finney. Running from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily, the camp aims to foster a positive relationship between youngsters and law enforcement personnel while offering a myriad of engaging activities.

Children can look forward to a week filled with dodgeball, kickball, gaga ball, and music, along with unique experiences such as meeting police K-9 units and getting sprayed down by fire trucks. Additionally, the camp will feature educational sessions covering topics such as drug and alcohol awareness, anti-bullying, internet safety, gun safety, first aid, and crime scene investigation (CSI).

Divided into teams, participants will not only engage in friendly competition but also learn the importance of teamwork. Throughout the camp, trained police officers and volunteers will closely supervise all activities.

Lunch will be provided daily, with breakfast available from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. for interested attendees. To ensure comfort during outdoor activities, children are advised to bring a hat, sunscreen, towel, and wear shorts. Each participant will receive a team shirt on the first day, which they are required to wear daily for identification purposes. Additional shirts can be purchased for $5.00 each.

Open to students from Greenville ISD, Greenville Christian School, Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy, and homeschooling networks entering the 6th grade, the camp aims to create a sense of community among peers. The registration deadline is May 17, 2024, and interested parents can direct any inquiries to Officer James Hamilton at jhamilton@ci.greenville.tx.us.
