Miguel Angel Castro-Govea, a Crowley resident, has entered a plea bargain following a tragic traffic accident that claimed the life of eight-year-old Thomas Berry from Canton. The incident occurred on May 19, 2023, in Henderson County, leading to Castro-Govea's arrest.
According to a report by the Department of Public Safety (DPS), Castro-Govea failed to stop at a stop sign, resulting in a collision with the pickup truck in which Berry was a passenger. The impact led to the unfortunate death of young Berry at Children’s Hospital in Dallas.
On Tuesday, Castro-Govea pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide. As part of the plea deal, he has accepted a sentence of five years of probation. Additionally, he will serve 180 days of confinement on weekends during his probation period and faces a fine of $2,000.
