In a corrective statement, the Crockett Police Department have clarified misinformation regarding an incident that occurred over the weekend. On Saturday, March 30, 2024, Crocket Police Officers responded to a call from a local business reporting a possible fentanyl exposure. The caller experienced chest and throat tightening after touching an object they suspected to be contaminated.
Upon arrival, Houston County EMS evaluated the individual, who opted to go to the hospital for further examination. Subsequent toxicology testing confirmed no presence of fentanyl or any illicit substances in the individual's system. The object in question was identified as a religious tract resembling money, which was left behind by a family. Surveillance footage revealed multiple individuals handling the tracts without gloves, with only the caller reporting adverse effects.
Coincidentally, another individual with a history of seizures experienced a medical episode around the same time as the fentanyl report. However, subsequent investigation determined that their condition was unrelated to the reported incident.
Authorities emphasize that the reported adverse reactions were isolated incidents, and there is no evidence to suggest a broader public health concern.
