In a proactive move to enhance the safety and preparedness of law enforcement officers, the Delta County Sheriff’s Office and other local agencies recently completed 16 hours of Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. The specialized training aimed at improving responses to active shooter situations has become a state mandate.
Recognizing the importance of being well-equipped, the Delta County Sheriff’s Office sought financial assistance through a state grant from E-Grants. After presenting extensive research and demonstrating the necessity for the purchase of ballistic shields, the office successfully secured $20,000 in funding.
The acquisition of these ballistic shields, made possible by the grant, enhances the capabilities of law enforcement officers in Delta County to respond to active shooter incidents in a safer and more effective manner. The shields serve as a crucial tool in ensuring the protection of officers and the public during critical situations.
On Wednesday, January 24, a shipment containing 18 ballistic shields arrived, and these will now be distributed to law enforcement officers across Delta County. These shields will be stored in officers' vehicles, contributing to their preparedness for any potential active shooter or barricaded subject scenarios.
This allocation of equipment not only strengthens the Delta County Sheriff’s Office but also benefits other law enforcement agencies within the county.
