On the evening of October 19, 2023, Sulphur Springs Police Department officers responded to a reported crash in the 300 block of Industrial Drive East at Saputo shortly before 8 p.m. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered an unoccupied Dodge Ram 2500 that had collided with several parked vehicles.

The vehicle's owner, identified as Jose Martinez, was located inside the business's gate along with employees. While officers were speaking with Martinez, they noticed several signs of intoxication, including erratic movements, mood swings, cotton mouth, and self-identifying as Jesus Christ.

Based on these observations, officers made the probable cause assumption that Martinez was intoxicated to a degree that posed a danger to himself or others in a public place. As a result, they took him into custody without further incident.

Following his arrest, Jose Luis Martinez, 44, of New Boston, Texas, was transported to the Hopkins County Jail. Subsequently, Martinez admitted to using methamphetamines.

Martinez has been booked into Hopkins County Jail on the charge of Public Intoxication.
