WOOD COUNTY, Texas - A 69-year-old Crowley man died Saturday morning after falling from a boat while participating in a fishing tournament at Lake Fork, according to Texas Game Wardens.
Jerry Ross, 69, was participating in the Sealy Outdoors fishing tournament when he fell from his boat and did not resurface.
Game wardens received a report of a possible drowning at approximately 6:15 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, and began searching the lake with assistance from local emergency responders.
After several hours of searching, game wardens located Ross underwater using sonar shortly before noon.
A diver with the Quitman Fire Department entered the water and recovered Ross' body.
The Quitman Fire Department, Wood County Sheriff's Office and Alba Fire Department assisted Texas Game Wardens with the search and recovery.
The incident occurred during the Sealy Outdoors Big Bass Splash fishing tournament at Lake Fork, which began Friday and was scheduled to continue through Sunday.
Authorities have not released additional information about what caused Ross to fall from the boat.
