MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas - A registered sex offender wanted on a felony warrant faces an additional drug charge after Titus County deputies reported finding methamphetamine while serving the warrant over the weekend.
Titus County Sheriff's Office deputies traveled to a residence on County Road 2300 at approximately 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, to arrest 63-year-old Gerald Frank Simpson on an outstanding felony warrant.
Simpson was not at the residence when deputies arrived. However, another person at the property contacted Simpson and asked him to return, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Simpson arrived a short time later and was taken into custody on the outstanding warrant.
While at the residence, deputies noticed drug paraphernalia in plain view, authorities said. Deputies subsequently received consent to search the home.
During the search, deputies reported finding methamphetamine.
Simpson was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance, a third-degree felony.
Simpson had been convicted of Aggravated Sexual Assault in 1995. The victim in that case was an 8-year-old boy.
