MESQUITE, Texas - A 33-year-old Garland woman was killed in an early-morning crash involving an SUV and a tractor-trailer in Mesquite, and the truck driver has been charged with manslaughter.
Mesquite police responded to the crash around 3:16 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, in the 1700 block of Interstate 30.
Investigators said a Chevrolet Equinox and a Freightliner pulling a 53-foot trailer collided on the transition ramp from westbound I-30 to northbound Interstate 635.
The driver of the Equinox was identified as Lisa Maldonado, 33, of Garland.
Maldonado was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash.
Police identified the Freightliner driver as Khasan Begbaev, 39, of Brooklyn, New York. He was not injured and remained at the crash scene until medical personnel arrived, according to police.
Begbaev was subsequently taken into custody and charged with one count of manslaughter.
Police have not released details about what investigators believe caused the collision or the circumstances that led to the manslaughter charge.
The Mesquite Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating the crash.
