TEXARKANA, Ark - A husband and wife were arrested just hours after authorities say they stole cash from an ATM during a coordinated theft that sparked a multi-agency investigation across Arkansas.
According to investigators, the theft occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 4 at an ATM near the intersection of Stateline Avenue and College Drive while an employee was servicing the machine.
Police said two masked suspects drove up to the ATM, stole cash cassettes containing an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene.
Investigators determined the suspects abandoned their initial vehicle in a nearby neighborhood and switched to a second vehicle that had allegedly been staged in advance.
Using surveillance footage from nearby businesses and Flock automated license plate reader cameras, detectives tracked the suspects' movements and identified the vehicles involved.
Authorities said the second vehicle was later found abandoned on East 35th Street by the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department. Investigators obtained a search warrant for the vehicle, and evidence recovered during the search helped identify a third vehicle, a Honda Accord.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., officers with the Rockport Police Department and the Arkansas State Police located the Honda Accord near Malvern, Arkansas.
A search of the vehicle uncovered money investigators believe was stolen during the ATM theft.
Police arrested 29-year-old Keanu White and 28-year-old Andreana White, both of Texarkana, Arkansas. The couple is being held in the Hot Springs County Jail on felony theft charges.
Investigators said the suspects were identified, located and arrested approximately four hours after the theft occurred.
Authorities credited the successful investigation to the coordinated efforts of detectives and multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department, Rockport Police Department and the Arkansas State Police.
The investigation remains ongoing.
