LAMAR COUNTY, Texas - A man was found dead Wednesday after a standoff with law enforcement in Lamar County, authorities said.
According to the Lamar County Sheriff's Office, deputies and other law enforcement agencies were notified on June 3, 2026, that an individual from Hopkins County was threatening suicide and making threats toward law enforcement.
The individual's vehicle was later located on Farm-to-Market Road 905 by a Lamar County Precinct 2 constable and detectives with the Lamar County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities said the suspect vehicle came to a stop in the middle of the roadway, prompting a standoff with responding officers.
As a precaution, residents in the surrounding area were notified of the situation and instructed to remain inside their homes until the scene was secured.
During the incident, the Lamar County Sheriff's Office Drone Team deployed aerial surveillance equipment to monitor the situation.
After a short time, officials confirmed through drone footage that the individual was deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Once the scene was secured, deputies notified residents that the threat had ended.
The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of family members and the completion of the investigation.
Multiple agencies assisted during the incident, including the Lamar County Constable's Office Precinct 2, Lamar County Sheriff's Office, Hopkins County Sheriff's Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Lamar County Emergency Management, Paris Police Department, local volunteer fire departments, and Paris EMS.
The investigation remains ongoing.
